CHAPTER 1: ESCAPE

Lavinia puts the makeshift tools inside the door, wiggles them once, and the door swings open.

i move to the door, i look to Lavinia and put my finger to my mouth indicating her to be quiet. As i think about it more, she is smaller so i step back from the door and indicate that she look out.

I see Kyzer's signal. I slightly push the door open and peak both ways into the next room.

The room is dimly lit with candles. At the end of the hall you see a door made of solid iron. No telling how thick it is. You see a keyhole in the center of the door(only accessible from H12 and I12). Just in front of that door is a large 10 by 10 pit trap. You see the candle light shimmer off of two glass doors covering the pit trap. Aside from that, the room appears to be empty.

I push the door open and enter the new room, i walk to J8 and turn around and signal for her to follow

As Kyzer signals for Lavinia he hears "SHING!"

Spikes shoot up from the floor where he is standing and stab into his legs(7dmg). Kyzer stumbles back into the room gritting his teeth from the pain. Blood runs down his unarmored legs.



STATUS UPDATE:

holding his injured leg he leans against the wall, " ok so that did not work out as i planned, You give it a try". I reason with Lavinia

"I know you wanna get out of here but let's not be hasty." I search the hallway for more traps, and disarm the trap that just injured Kyzer.

Lavinia slowly sees several more holes in the ground as she looks more carefully. She leans over and starts to disarm the first trap. She sees that they are all connected. She can disarm them all at once.

"SHINK!" Lavinia jerks her hands back as soon as she hears the noise. The spikes shoot out and back into the floor quickly. They still graze her arms but do not cut them.

I jerk my arms away pulling them close to my chest. I turn to Kyzer "Well that was my best shot. Do you have any ideas?"

I pick up the bones and place them behind the other 2 and see if they want to build them like Lincoln logs

I pick up one of the leg bones "Kimara, will you break this in half and try to make one end sharp when you do"

"Alright" i take the bone and smash it across my knee hoping it will split in 2 sharp edges

The bone snaps in half over Kimara's leg. The ends are jagged and sharp just as he and Lavinia had hopped.

"Thanks. Hang on to those for just a second, I'm going to try to disarm these spikes again." Relying on my reflexes, I bend down and try once more to disarm the spike trap.

Lavinia tries once more to disarm the trap.

"SHINK!" Again the sound is heard.

This time her hands are not fast enough. The spikes pierce both her arms as she pulls them away. (2dmg)

i shake my head," you are correct we should not be hasty" i point to her hands. " there has to be a way out the gnolls got in here".

DM NOTE TO LAVINIA: From your craft trap making skill, you know that a bypass switch is very likely in this situation.

"You are right. I know there is a bypass switch, but I don't think it's in this room. They would not make it that easy." I turn to Kimara and take one of the bone daggers. "Thanks again." I then turn back to Kyzer, "I say we make a bunch of noise and draw thier attention, when they come to investigate they will show us where the bypass switch is."

"yes and they also might attack us, are you sure it is worth the risk"

"Well we have to do something. We have weapons now so we actually stand a chance against them. I'm not saying it's going to work, but I can not think of anything else to do. The real question is how many are going to come..."

DM NOTE TO KYZER: You know how to speak Gnoll so you are slightly familiar with them. One thing that you can not get free from your mind is how odd this situation is. Gnolls usually use ambush tactics and numbers against their foes. It's VERY RARE for you to ever see a Gnoll use any kind of trap...

"ok, you are right we need to get out of here, but lets close the door so they will not know we are loose".

"Ok. I hope this works." I pull the door closed.
