CHAPTER 1: ESCAPE

"You, small one, what is it you remember"

The pain in my head is aweful and so is the fear that comes with it. The half-orc above me looks hairy and nasty. He drools slightly as he looks at me with a face of someone with down syndrom. The other man in the corner looks concerned and is surveying the room. I would have been more alarmed if they were not all in manacles like me. "Where are we?" "Who are you two?" I stand to my feet and try to brush the muck off my new and hopefully temporary clothes. I was too confused to answer his question, I had questions of my own.

"I am Kyzer Hallinger, and i am not sure where we are. I was tracking a group of gnolls who took something that belonged to me. I guess i must of been spotted because some doubled back and ambushed me. What is your name small one and how did you come to be here"?

I look to the large man in the corner, "My name is Lavinia. I was fleeing from my home at night... While fleeing I came across a village completely slaughtered. Some were still alive..." The memories were slowly coming back. "The attackers were in clokes...black and red. I don't really know what happened after they attacked me."

"what do you know of the attack, spit it out now you filthy slut"

Not happy with the name she decides not to tell him anything. "I don't remember, but there will be time for descussion later. What is important now is that we get out of here." I walk over to the door and start searching it for traps and see what kind of lock i am dealing with.

Lavinia searches the door for traps and finds none. She then examines the lock more carefully. It's built within the door, but there is a good chance she might be able to pick the lock.

I kneel down and close my eyes shut, i can feel blood flowing freely down my neck and down the ragged tunic that was put on me. i feel around the back of my head and feel a deep gash, but nothing fatal. I stand back up and look around the room. Puzzled by my lack of discovery i move to the door to see what the female is doing.

Seeing Kyzer walking up to me I explain, "I think I can get this door open. There is no telling what is on the other side though. We had better be ready to fight when i open it. We got any weapons? Any way to break these manacles?" I look to the half-orc and hold out the chains, "I bet you could snap ours right off. That's why you are wearing stronger ones."

has a puzzled expression as he listens to the other two talk

I roll my eyes and sigh, "You, what's your name?" I ask the half-orc "Can you break these manacles?"

"no, im exhausted from having raged earlier"

I turn to kyzer, "You have any ideas?" I try to manuver out of my manacles (escape artist)

"Well if you can pick the lock on the door, can't you pick these m anacle locks?" i ask lavinia

(dc 30 escape artist to get out of manacles. Lavinia's max escape artist check = 28) Lavinia fails to escape from her binds.

"It's worth a try." I begin to try and pick the lock on my manacles.

She tries to pick the lock and only manages to jam it. (-2 penalty for no thieves' tools and rolled a nat. 1) She is stuck wearing them for now till she can find another way out of them.

"FUCK!" I yell as i toss down my makeshift tools. "I jammed it." I shake my head in deffeat and anger. "I can try to pick the lock on yours Kyzer, but i risk jamming your lock as well."

I laugh at her current situation

i walk over to the hole that has fresh blood in the bottom and rub my wrists around in the bottom, coating my hands in blood. i move my hands around in the manacles letting the blood run under the manacles and then i put my right leg on the chain connecting the manacles and push out with all my might.

Kyzer is smart with his idea. It does ease the process greatly (-5 to escape artist dc). However, they are tight around his wrists and do not budge over his large hands. (new dc for Kyzer escape = 25 max escape artist check = 21)

I see Kyzer's idea, "Kyzer, your neck is bleeding. Lean over and let me smear some of your blood on my hands. I think your idea will work for me."

"Do you think if im able to pee on your hands, will that be more sufficient"

I try not to laugh at the half-orc as he asks the question. My sarcasm finds its way to my mouth, "ACTUALLY! If you pee on your own hands I can see how well it works for you and then decide if I wanna try it."
